10:21
וּלְשֵׁ֥ם יֻלַּ֖ד גַּם־ה֑וּא
And to Shem had been begotten, moreover he,
אֲבִי֙ כָּל־בְּנֵי־עֵ֔בֶר
– the ancestor of all the sons of Eber,
אֲחִ֖י יֶ֥פֶת הַגָּדֽוֹל׃
– the brother of Jephet the greater: —
10:22-23
בְּנֵ֥י שֵׁ֖ם עֵילָ֣ם וְאַשּׁ֑וּר
The sons of Shem:
Elam (South-western Iran) and Asshur (Assyria)
וְאַרְפַּכְשַׁ֖ד וְל֥וּד וֽ͏ַאֲרָֽם׃
And Arpachshad, and Lud (Lydia in Asia Minor)
and Aram (Syria / Damascus);
וּבְנֵ֖י אֲרָ֑ם
And the sons of Aram:
ע֥וּץ וְח֖וּל וְגֶ֥תֶר וָמַֽשׁ׃
Uz and Hul, and Gether and Mash.
10:24
וְאַרְפַּכְשַׁ֖ד יָלַ֣ד אֶת־שָׁ֑לַח
And Arpachshad, he had begotten Shelach ( branchlet),
וְשֶׁ֖לַח יָלַ֥ד אֶת־עֵֽבֶר׃
And Shelach, he had begotten Eber (other/opposing side);
10:25
וּלְעֵ֥בֶר יֻלַּ֖ד שְׁנֵ֣י בָנִ֑ים
Now to Eber had been begotten two sons:
שֵׁ֣ם הֽ͏ָאֶחָ֞ד פֶּ֗לֶג
The name of the one was Peleg (division),
כִּ֤י בְיָמָיו֙ נִפְלְגָ֣ה הָאָ֔רֶץ
Because in his days the earth had divided;
וְשֵׁ֥ם אָחִ֖יו יָקְטָֽן׃
And the name of his brother was Joktan (little);
10:26
וְיָקְטָ֣ן יָלַ֔ד אֶת־אַלְמוֹדָ֖ד וְאֶת־שָׁ֑לֶף
And Joktan had begotten Almodad (Southern Arabian tribe),
and Shelef (Yemenite tribe / unsheath / plunder );
וְאֶת־חֲצַרְמָ֖וֶת וְאֶת־יָֽרַח׃
And HatzarMavet (Courtyard of Death / Southern Arabian tribe),
and Jerach (Moonth / Yemenite tribe);
10:27-28
וְאֶת־הֲדוֹרָ֥ם וְאֶת־אוּזָ֖ל וְאֶת־דִּקְלָֽה׃
And Hadoram (Yemen)
and Uzal (Pre-Islamic capital of Yemen)
וְאֶת־עוֹבָ֥ל וְאֶת־אֲבִֽימָאֵ֖ל וְאֶת־שְׁבָֽא׃
And Uval (tribe in Yemen)
and Avimael ( in Southern Arabia)
and Sheva (in Southern Arabia)
10:29
וְאֶת־אוֹפִ֥ר וְאֶת־חֲוִילָ֖ה וְאֶת־יוֹבָ֑ב
And Ophir and Havilah,
and Yovav (armed for battle);
כָּל־אֵ֖לֶּה בְּנֵ֥י יָקְטָֽן׃
All these are the sons of Joktan;
10:30
וֽ͏ַיְהִ֥י מוֹשָׁבָ֖ם מִמֵּשָׁ֑א
And their dwelling place was from Mesha,
בֹּאֲכָ֥ה סְפָ֖רָה הַ֥ר הַקֶּֽדֶם׃
as you go towards Sephar,
then the mountain range of the East.
10:31
אֵ֣לֶּה בְנֵי־שֵׁ֔ם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם לִלְשֹׁנֹתָ֑ם
These are the sons of Shem,
according to their clans, by their languages,
בְּאַרְצֹתָ֖ם לְגוֹיֵהֶֽם׃
In their territories, by their peoples.
10:32
אֵ֣לֶּה מִשְׁפְּחֹ֧ת בְּנֵי־נֹ֛חַ לְתוֹלְדֹתָ֖ם בְּגוֹיֵהֶ֑ם
These are the families of the sons of Noah,
according to their descendants, in their nations;
וּמֵאֵ֜לֶּה נִפְרְד֧וּ הַגּוֹיִ֛ם בָּאָ֖רֶץ אַחַ֥ר הַמַּבּֽוּל׃ פ
And so from these,
the peoples had spread out on the Earth,
after the Deluge.
