5:28-6:4
וַֽיְחִי־לֶ֕מֶךְ
שְׁתַּ֧יִם וּשְׁמֹנִ֛ים שָׁנָ֖ה וּמְאַ֣ת שָׁנָ֑ה
And Lemech lived one hundred and eighty two years,
וַיֹּ֖ולֶד בֵּֽן׃
And he brought forth a son;
וַיִּקְרָ֧א אֶת־שְׁמֹ֛ו נֹ֖חַ לֵאמֹ֑ר
And he called his name Noah, saying:
זֶ֞ה֠ יְנַחֲמֵ֤נוּ מִֽמַּעֲשֵׂ֙נוּ֙ וּמֵעִצְּבֹ֣ון יָדֵ֔ינוּ
“This one shall console us because of our labour,
and by reason of the anxious toil of our hands,
מִן־הָ֣אֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֵֽרְרָ֖הּ יְהוָֽה׃
on account of the ground,
concerning which the LORD did lay it under curse”.
5:30-31
וַֽיְחִי־לֶ֗מֶךְ אַֽחֲרֵי֙ הֹולִידֹ֣ו אֶת־נֹ֔חַ
And Lemech lived, after his begetting Noah,
חָמֵ֤שׁ וְתִשְׁעִים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה
וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ מֵאֹ֖ת שָׁנָ֑ה
five hundred and ninety five years;
וַיֹּ֥ולֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֹֽות׃
And he begat sons and daughters;
וַֽיְהִי֙ כָּל־יְמֵי־לֶ֔מֶךְ
שֶׁ֤בַע וְשִׁבְעִים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה
וּשְׁבַ֥ע מֵאֹ֖ות שָׁנָ֑ה
And all the days of Lemech were
seven hundred and seventy seven years;
וַיָּמֹֽת׃ ס
And he died.
5:32
וַֽיְהִי־נֹ֕חַ בֶּן־חֲמֵ֥שׁ מֵאֹ֖ות שָׁנָ֑ה
And Noah was a son of five hundred years;
וַיֹּ֣ולֶד נֹ֔חַ אֶת־שֵׁ֖ם אֶת־חָ֥ם וְאֶת־יָֽפֶת׃ס
And Noah begat Shem, Ham and Japheth.
6:1
וַֽיְהִי֙ כִּֽי־הֵחֵ֣ל הָֽאָדָ֔ם
And it came about that mankind had become profane,
לָרֹ֖ב עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הָֽאֲדָמָ֑ה
en masse, upon the face of the earth,
וּבָנֹ֖ות יֻלְּד֥וּ לָהֶֽם׃
And daughters were birthed for them;
6:2
וַיִּרְא֤וּ בְנֵי־הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ אֶת־בְּנֹ֣ות הָֽאָדָ֔ם כִּ֥י טֹבֹ֖ת הֵ֑נָּה
And the sons of The True God looked at
the daughters of man, because they were attractive;
וַיִּקְח֤וּ לָהֶם֙ נָשִׁ֔ים מִכֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּחָֽרוּ׃
And they took for themselves women,
from all those whom they had examined.
6:3
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֗ה
Then said the LORD:
לֹֽא־יָדֹ֨ון רוּחִ֤י בָֽאָדָם֙ לְעֹלָ֔ם
“My Spirit will not plead for ever with man,
בְּשַׁגַּ֖ם ה֣וּא בָשָׂ֑ר
in that also he is flesh:
וְהָי֣וּ יָמָ֔יו מֵאָ֥ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים שָׁנָֽה׃
But his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”
6:4
הַנְּפִלִ֞ים הָי֣וּ בָאָרֶץ֮ בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵם֒
The Celestial Apostates,
they were on the earth in those days,
וְגַ֣ם אַֽחֲרֵי־כֵ֗ן
and also afterwards,
אֲשֶׁ֨ר יָבֹ֜אוּ
When they would go in,
בְּנֵ֤י הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙
The sons of The True God,
אֶל־בְּנֹ֣ות הָֽאָדָ֔ם וְיָלְד֖וּ לָהֶ֑ם
to the daughters of man;
and would beget for themselves:-
הֵ֧מָּה הַגִּבֹּרִ֛ים
Those mighty tyrants,
אֲשֶׁ֥ר מֵעֹולָ֖ם
which were from antiquity, —
אַנְשֵׁ֥י הַשֵּֽׁם׃ פ
the men of kudos.
