Genesis 22:1-24

22:1

And it happened, after these things,

That the True God had tested and proved Abraham;

And He said to him: “Abraham”, and he replied “Here I am”

22:2

Then He said: “Now take

your only son whom you have loved, —Isaac,

And go,— get yourself away, to the land of Moriah (the bitter grief of the LORD),

And present him there for an entirely-burnt-offering,

Upon a certain mountain that I shall say to you.”

22:3

And Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his ass,

And he took two of his young men with him,
along with Isaac his son,

And he split the burnt-offering wood,

Then he set out and proceeded

to the place that the True God had said to him;

22:4

On the third day, Abraham lifted up his eyes,

And he saw that place from a distance;

22:5

And Abraham said to the young men:

“Remain here by yourselves with the ass,

while me and the lad, we shall go over there;

And we shall worship,
and then we shall return to you.”

22:6

And Abraham took the burnt-offering wood,

And he placed it upon Isaac his son,

And he took in his own hand the fire and the knife;

Then the two of them proceeded together.

22:7

Then Isaac spoke to Abraham his father, —

And he said: “My father”,
And he replied: “Here I am my son”.

Then he said— “Here is the fire and the wood,

But where is the sheep for the burnt-offering?”

22:8

And Abraham replied,

God, —
He shall see to that sheep for Himself
for the entirely-bunt-offering, my son;

Then the two of them walked together;

22:9

And they came to that place,
which God had said to him,

And Abraham built the altar there,

And he laid out the wood,

Then he bound Isaac his son, and he placed him on the altar,

on top of the wood;

22:10

Then Abraham stretched out his hand

And took the knife

In order to slaughter his son;

22:11

But the Messenger of the LORD called out to him from Heaven,

And he said, “Abraham, Abraham”

And he replied, “I here”

22:12

And He commanded, —
“Don’t put forth your hand towards the lad,

so that you won’t do anything to him;

For under these circumstances I do know,
that you are in reverence of God,

Since you did not withhold your only son from Me!”

22:13

And Abraham lifted his eyes,

And he observed, and behold a ram, beyond,
caught in a thicket by the horns;

And Abraham went and fetched the ram,

And he offered it as an entirely-burnt-offering, instead of his son.

22:14

And Abraham called the name of that place
“The LORD Shall See To It”

( Of which it is said today,
“In the Mount of the LORD it shall be seen to.” )

22:15

Then the Messenger of the LORD called to Abraham;

The second time from Heaven,

22:16

And he said:
“On Me have I pledged Myself — the Declaration of the LORD:

For, on account of that which you have done, this very thing,

That you have not withheld your son, your only one:

22:17

Therefore I shall abundantly bless you,

And I shall exponentially multiply your Seed—
like the stars of Heaven—

and as the sand that is upon the seashore;

And your Seed shall take possession of the gate of His enemies;

22:18

“And all the nations shall bless themselves through your Seed, —

The end result of the fact
that you complied with My voice”.

22:19

And Abraham returned to his young men,

Then they arose and went together towards Be’er Sheva,

And Abraham stayed at Be’er Sheva.

22:20

And it happened, following these events,

That it was reported to Abraham:

“Behold, Milcah – she on her part has borne
children to Nachor your brother”:

22:21

Utz (he took council/devised a plan) his first-born,
and Buz (contempt) his brother;

And Kemuel (assembly of God/Gods standing grain),
the father of Aram (elevated);

22:22

And Kesed (Chaldean) and Chazo (visionary),

and Pildash (iron-stride), and Yidlaf (weeps);

And the Bethuel (set apart by God);

22:23

And it was Bethuel, he begat Rivkah (captivating).

To Nachor, the brother of Abraham.

22:24

And his adjunct-wife,
and her name: Re’umah (sublime):

Also she on her part gave birth to
Tevach (butchery) and Gacham (setting on fire),

And Tachash (skin stretching),
and Ma’aChah (oppression).
