Genesis 40:1
And it happened after these things,
The cup-bearer of the king of Egypt,
and the baker, they had committed an offence:
Against their Lord, against the king of Egypt;
Genesis 40:2
And the Pharaoh was furious against
the two of his eunuch-high-officials:
Against the overseer of the cup-bearers,
and against the overseer of the bakers.
Genesis 40:3
And he placed them within the custody
of the realm of the overseer of the executioner-guards,
into the prison (the round house):
The place, there where Joseph was confined;
Genesis 40:4
And the overseer of the executioner-guards
entrusted Joseph with them,
And he served them;
And they were in custody for some time;
Genesis 40:5
Now both of them, they dreamt a dream,
Each his own dream, in a single night,
Each, according to the meaning of his own dream;
The cup-bearer and the baker,
They who belonged to the king of Egypt,
They who had been incarcerated in the prison;
Genesis 40:6
And in the morning Joseph came to them;
And he observed them,
and they, behold, they were in a puzzled state;
Genesis 40:7
So he asked the eunuch-high-officials of Pharaoh,
They who were with him in the custody
of the realm of his lord, saying:
“Why are your countenances sad today?”
Genesis 40:8
And they said to him:
“We dreamt a dream,
But there is no interpreter of it!”
But Joseph said to them:
“Do not interpretations belong to God?
Please describe it to me;”
Genesis 40:9
Then the overseer of the cup-bearers,
he described his dream to Joseph;
And he said to him:
“In my dream, behold! a vine was in front of me;”
Genesis 40:10
“And on the vine, three branches;
And while it was sprouting
it’s blossom had sprung up,
It’s clusters of grapes had become ripe;”
Genesis 40:11
“And the cup of Pharaoh was in my hand;
Then I took the grapes,
And I pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup,
And I set the cup upon Pharaoh’s palm.”
Genesis 40:12
Then Joseph said to him;
“This is it’s interpretation:
The three branches,
they are three days;”
Genesis 40:13
“Within three days,
Pharaoh will lift up your head favourably,
And he will have restored you to your position;
And you shall place the cup of Pharaoh into his possession,
As per the former right,
when you were his cup-bearer;”
Genesis 40:14
“But could you remember me beside your presence,
When it goes well for you,
And please do me a kindness,
And mention me to Pharaoh,
So you might cause me to come out of this space!”
Genesis 40:15
“For I was stolen away forcibly from the land of the Hebrews;
And moreover here I had done nothing,
That they should set me down in the dungeon.”
Genesis 40:16
Now the overseer of the bakers took note
that he had interpreted positively;
Then he said to Joseph:
“ Yea myself, in my dream, —
And behold! — three baskets of white bread, on my head!”
Genesis 40:17
“And in the topmost basket,—
The Pharaoh’s food of all kinds
that was baked product;
But the birds
were devouring them out of the basket, from over my head!”
Genesis 40:18
Then Joseph responded and said:
“This is it’s interpretation:
The three baskets, they are three days;”
Genesis 40:19
“Within three days,
Pharaoh will lift up your head from on you,
Then he will hang you upon a stake;
And the birds will devour your flesh from over you.”
Genesis 40:20
Now it happened on the third day,
Pharaoh’s birthday,
That he made a drink-and-food banquet,
for all his servants;
And he lifted up favourably
the head of the cup-bearers’ overseer,
And the head of the bakers’ overseer,
in the midst of his servants.

Genesis 40:21
And he restored the cup-bearers’ overseer
to his butlership;
And he placed the cup upon Pharaoh’s palm;
Genesis 40:22
But the bakers’ overseer he hanged,
Just as Joseph had explained to them.
Genesis 40:23
But the cup-bearers’ overseer did not think of Joseph,
And he forgot him.
