12:10
Now a famine occurred in the land;
And Avram came down to Egypt to sojourn there,
For the famine was severe in the land;
12:11
And it happened, when he was on the point of entering Egypt,
that he said to Sarai his wife:
“Here, look! I know that you are a woman of beautiful appearance;”
12:12
“And it will happen, when the Egyptians shall see you,
then they will say, ‘This is his wife’;
And will kill me, but let you live.”
12:13
“Just say you are my sister,
so that it may go well for me on account of you,
and my soul shall live on because of you.”
12:14
And so it happened,
as Avram was coming into Egypt,
That the Egyptians took note of the woman,
for she was exceptionally beautiful;
12:15
And the officials of Pharaoh took note of her,
And they praised her to Pharaoh;
And the woman was taken for Pharaoh’s household;
12:16
And he acted well with Avram on account of her;
And so for him there was a flock and a herd,
and he-asses,
and menservants, and maidservants,
and she-asses, and camels;
12:17
But the LORD struck Pharaoh with
great plagues, together with his household,
Over the case of Sarai
the wife of Avram;
12:18
Then Pharaoh called Avram, and said:
“What is this you have done to me?!
For what reason had you not told me
that she is your wife?”
12:19
“Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’,
so that I took her for myself as a wife?
But now, behold your wife, take and go!”
12:20
And Pharaoh commanded men concerning him,
And they expelled him together with his wife,
and all that belonged to him;
13:1
And Avram went up out of Egypt,
himself,
together with his wife and all that belonged to him,
And Lot in company with him,
to the desert in the south.
13:2
And Avram was very rich,
In livestock, in silver and in gold.
13:3
So he proceeded into his journeys from the south,
and as far as Beth-El,
Up to that place,
at the beginning, to there where his tent had been,
between Beth-El and H’Ai,
13:4
To the place of the altar,
which he had made there aforetime;
And there Avram called on the name of the LORD.
13:5
Now also belonging to Lot,
who was going with Avram,
there were flocks and herds,
and tent-dwellings;
3:6
But the land did not carry them
so as to dwell together;
For he had great possessions,
And they had not been able
to dwell together;
13:7
So there was strife
between the herdsmen of Avram’s livestock
and between the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock;
And the Canaanites and the Perizzites
at that time were dwelling in the land;
13:8
And so Avram said to Lot:
“Please let there not be contention
between me and between you
and between my herdsmen
and between your herdsmen:
For we are grown men brothers;”
13:9
“Is not the whole land before you?
Please separate yourself from me;
If to the left side, then I will go right,
If to the right side, then I will go left.”
13:10
And Lot lifted his eyes:
And he observed all the plain of the Jordan,
that all of it was irrigated land
— prior to the LORD destroying
Sodom and Gomorrah —
like the garden of the LORD,
like the land of Egypt,
in your heading towards Zoar (Insignificance).
13:11
And Lot chose for himself
the whole plain of the Jordan;
And Lot pulled up stakes from earlier times,
And they separated themselves,
a man from his brother.
13:12
Avram dwelt in the land of Cana’an;
But Lot had settled
among the cities of the plain,
And he moved tent as far as Sodom.
13:13
And the men of Sodom,
they were bad and sinful;
Greatly against the LORD.
13:14
Now the LORD had said to Avram,
— after Lot separating from him —
“Lift now your eyes, and behold,
from the place, there where you are,
northward and southward, and eastward and westward:”
13:15
“Because the whole land
that you are seeing, to you I will give it,
and to your seed, unto eternity;”
13:16
“And I will make your seed like the dust of the earth;
Where, if one were able to count
the dust of the earth,
also your seed could be counted!”
13:17
“Arise, walk to and fro in the land,
to the length of it and to the breadth of it;
For to you will I give it.”
13:18
And Avram moved tent,
and went and dwelt
by the Oaks of Mamre,
which were in Hebron;
And there he built an altar to the LORD.
